Luciano’s experience spans period Costume design through to contemporary design with a strong emphasis on historical high-end TV Drama.

1. Tell us about your new film that’s just coming out (Juliet & Romeo)? How was your experiences working on the film?

One of our guest writers, Daniel Mazz has interviewed Luciano Capozzi; the costume designer for Juliet & Romeo, an upcoming film which is due to be released in UK cinemas on June 11.

Juliet & Romeo – directed by Timothy Scott Bogart, is a musical reimagining of the classic romance story by William Shakespeare titled Romeo & Juliet.

The film stars Clara Rugaard as Juliet and Jamie Ward as Romeo, also including Rebel Wilson and Jason Isaacs in roles in the Capulet and Montague families.

Awards Radar got the opportunity to chat with Luciano Capozzi, the costume designer responsible for creating the looks we see on the recently released Netflix film The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die. Capozzi created costumes from scratch for the principal cast and up to 700+ background characters, he wanted to humanize the characters and not have them be seen as just heroes, and he used a natural color palette to differentiate the various kingdoms while making sure to use muted tones that feel more realistic 

In was an honor chatting with with extremely talented artist Luciano Capozzi about the craft and art of Costume Designing.

Matthew Toffolo: Where were you born and raised? Was wardrobe something you were always passionate about? Was “working in the movies” something you dreamed to doing one day?

Asa part of our series about creating a successful career in TV and Film, I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing Luciano Capozzi.

Luciano Capozzi was born in Marino, a small town just outside Rome. After having completed his studies at the State Art Institute in Rome in 1986, Luciano, thanks to a Costume Designer competition, Participated at the first ever design course to be given by Giulia Mafai, an Italian Costume Designer that worked with directors such as Vittorio De Sica, Mario Monicelli and others.
